Be a fan of people

Sports transcends all boundaries. If everything in life were as simple as being a sports fan we would all get along so much better with the people in our communities.

When I think about the lines that separate us from each other I can’t help but wonder what life would be like in a world were the only thing that mattered was our passion for our communities.

The other day I saw an older man getting out of his truck. He was wearing his team gear decked out in Denver Broncos blue and orange. As a Colorado native and die hard Broncos fan myself, I was happy to see another brother “united in orange”. We exchanged a few words and went our separate ways. I started thinking to myself, would I have ever talked to that man in any other setting?

College students should dress like adults not tricks

Coming back to the college for a new semester, I am sure we will all see someone whose clothing, or lack thereof, will make you think, “Should the college have a dress code?” I am here to further myself as an individual through education. Some seem to be using the college as their personal fashion runway.

To be taken seriously, I feel that we as students need to be aware of the image we are presenting.

When I see a student whose dress is in actuality a shirt and covers none of the essential parts, I don’t take her seriously as a student.

Steroid users get a ticket to Hall of Shame

The votes are in and the nominees for this years steroids Hall of Shame are… Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire. Welcome to the hall boys.

This year Cooperstown New York will remain silent. There will be no ceremonies, no emotional speeches, and no bronze busts placed in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

While no one was elected to receive the honor in 2013, all of these men had career accomplishments that should have made them first ballot shoe-ins. Most of them likely would have been hall of famers if not for that little fly in the ointment known as steroids.

The price of education is worthwhile

It’s a new year, and the normal spring semester is about to begin for 2013. Classes will start, and those of us unfortunate enough have morning obligations will have to drag ourselves out of bed and rush off into the cold morning.

We will get new classes, new professors and maybe some new friends, but more importantly, we’ll get exposure to new concepts, ideas, theories and information that should help us grow and evolve as educated citizens.

In the end, that’s why we do it, right? It’s all done in the name of self improvement. It helps motivate us to get up and into class day after day.

Top James Bond theme songs

With the release of the new James Bond film “Skyfall”, I thought it appropriate to stop and take a look back at some of the music which has helped make James Bond films both new and old a success. Here is a list of my top 8 James Bond theme songs.

1. “View To A Kill” by Duran Duran (from “View To a Kill”, 1985)

Maybe I’m a bit biased since Duran Duran is my favorite band but seriously, how can you not love this song? Not only does it have a catchy tune, hot male singers, but it is the only James Bond theme song to date which has reached number one on the Hot 100 charts. Plus you can’t help but smile when lead singer Simon Le Bon makes a play on the film at the end of the music video by introducing himself as “Bon, Simon Le Bon.”

Saying goodbye to the pioneer

I’ve worked for the pioneer for the last two years and I’ve enjoyed the vast majority of it. I started out as a video blogger that nobody watched. I went to Online Writer, which I’ve been for two full semesters.

I was the community writer for a semester, which while I hated it at the time, I started to get used to it. Unfortunately, I had to quit my job recently because of stress related reasons.

I used to hammer out a story per day and sometimes two, but I also used to work 20 hour weeks. Now I can’t even keep up with a ten hour week at one story per day.

Modern music is unimpressive

Whatever happened to music with feeling? I don’t just mean gushy mushy love songs. I mean songs that are an expression of human existence. Where have they gone?

Today, it seems that most people are content listening to songs with catchy lyrics describing some cliche regarding clubs and bars or living in lavish ways that most people have no chance of doing. Why is this garbage so prevalent?

I think part of the problem is touched on by Andy Warhol when he said that the greatest art movement of our time is the celebrity. In the past, people were made famous for their accomplishments, but now it’s an accomplishment simply to be famous. This effectively lowers the bar. I think this is evidenced by the popularity of people like Paris Hilton that don’t really do anything to gain their initial fame.

Guerilla Tactics of the Human Rights War

Howdy, everyone! Sorry for the delay. Fall break, the flu, and a deluge of tests collaborated to prevent me from getting regular posts up. But I am once again wroth with the Facebooks, so here we go.

Take a look at this.

Now, nobody start screaming yet. The individual who posted this is a devout Catholic with a paramilitary background, and a good man. I want to be clear on that, because I’m addressing the problems associated with posting this shit, not the man himself.

Making progress in WoW

I’ve just recently gotten to 90 on my warrior in WoW, and it only took about two weeks. It seems like a long time to gain five levels, but it wasn’t.

I’ve not gotten to do any heroics yet, nor have I been able to do many dungeons.

This makes me kinda sad and/or annoyed, because I want to get farther in the game now that I’ve experienced the beginning content.
