This might be the one time that eating cookies and playing ping-pong in the biotechnology lab is acceptable – and it’s all for a good cause. Oklahoma Biotechnology Association President Thi Lam said anyone who wants to help raise money for an upcoming event can donate funds in exchange for fun at an upcoming fundraiser.

Ping-Pong Fun and Fundraiser will be from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Biotechnology Lab, room 1C7. Participants can pay $1 to enter the lab, get snacks from a cookie table and enter the ping-pong tournament, Lam said.

“It will be like a hang-out party,” she said. “We’ll have card games, and music playing and board games.”

Lam said though they will have brackets of players, there also will be a chance for participants to play a non-competitive game.

“Between people who want to play [in the tournament], there will be people who just want to play for fun,” she said.

OBA members hope to present trophies to the winners and will have four T-shirt raffles throughout the afternoon, Lam said.

She said the proceeds will go to an upcoming cell biology conference in San Diego that eight association members plan to attend. Funds are still needed to cover the hotel as well as driving and food expenses, Lam said.
