Interactive severe weather workshop set for April 24
OCCC Student Life and Student Support Services will host “Finding Strength: Tools for Severe Weather” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in room 1X3.
Student Life faculty said this interactive workshop will help people understand their feelings and provide helpful tools so they can focus on the beauty of spring and less on weather possibilities.
“We want students, faculty and staff to feel comfortable and have the necessary tools to deal with any nervousness or dread they may have with severe weather,” said Kendra Fringer, Student Life coordinator.
Fringer said many people in the OCCC community, as well as the campus itself, were affected by tornadoes last May.
“Losing a home, losing a family member or having damage of any type can be a traumatic experience,” Fringer said.
“We want to help those individuals work through those types of feelings and fear.”
Some people can experience nervousness, jumpiness or even flashbacks when it comes to any type of severe weather, she said.
This workshop will give helpful tools to help with feelings like these.
“Even if you were not personally affected by the tornadoes, you can still have worries of the unknown when it comes to severe weather,” Fringer said. “It will be a great workshop to be at because you could possibly help yourself or someone else in the future with the information you will learn.”
