Recent job fair a ‘nice opportunity’ for job-seekers
Over 100 potential employers created a labyrinth of tables in the General Dining area on Wednesday, March 7. Students and community members shuffled from table to table, to meet with representatives of area businesses at the Job Fair hosted by Student Employment Services.
Both students and employers saw the event as an opportunity to meet the other side.
“It was a nice opportunity,” Rebecca Smith, a representative from Olive Garden, said. “The hospitality industry is always looking for employees who have a flexible schedule, and that’s college students.”
Joyce Burch, Graduate Outreach and Internships manager from the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, praised the event.
“We think the world of Dr. (Debra) Vaughn and Dr. (Kevin) Fink,” Burch said. “You have a great carrier service office, take advantage of carrier services and things like this.”
Burch outlined why job fairs are important to Oklahoma.
“Our goal is to make sure students stay in Oklahoma after graduation,” Burch said. “We have to keep talent in our state, especially since we have one of the highest employment rates in the country.”
