Single Moms Resource and Information Fair Sept. 23

OCCC’s Single Mothers Academic Resource Team, commonly known as SMART, is hosting a Single Moms Resource and Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the College Union, said SMART Coordinator Keisha Williams.

While SMART’s efforts initially began on behalf of single mothers, Williams said, its mission is to create change in the metro’s single-parent population through education.

The Single Moms Resource and Information Fair, she said, serves as a connection between community resources and community members — including OCCC students.

“Oftentimes, there are moms who have a need and they don’t know where to go, so the main goal is to bring the resources to the parents,” Williams said.

“The fair is an avenue to bring services to the community.”

Williams said the Infant Crisis Center, Hope Pregnancy Center, and the Rainbow Fleet — an organization that assists with finding childcare for single parents — will have representatives and information available at the fair.

“The organizations that will be at the fair typically work with the single-parent population,” she said.
