Diverse, upbeat music genre of Jazz concert Dec. 4

Eclectic performances featuring Be bop, Latin, swing and Brazilian bossa nova will be included in the OCCC Jazz Band’s performance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Bruce Owen Theater.

Students playing saxophone, trombone and guitar will be accompanied on the piano by Music Professor Michael Boyle.

“The music’s shaping up to be slamming,” Boyle said. “I’m really excited.”

Guitarist Jared Bross said the show will be worth attending.

“It’s a more lively and fun concert with music people haven’t heard and would enjoy,” Bross said. “It’s definitely one of the more complicated concerts we’ve done musically.”

Alto saxophonist Stanley Hall said the concert is more up-tempo than past ones.

Bross plays in the chamber and concert choirs, blues band and the classical guitar ensemble.

The free concert is open to the public.
