Choirs combine for May 7 spring concert

The OCCC Choir will be hosting a spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7.

“Take a break from studying and enjoy a great evening of choral music,” said Professor Ronald Staton, choral music department director.

“A lot of hard work has been put into it,” Staton said.

The concert will be a culmination of the semester’s work and will include voices from three campus groups, the Concert, Chamber, and Symphonic choirs, adding up to more than 50 performers.

All three choirs will perform two songs as a group and many other songs separately, Staton said.

“”The Unexpected Song’ is my favorite,” said Cici Simon, alto vocalist and choir member.

Simon said the singers try to put their signature on each selection.

“There will be a variety of music in the concert,” she said. “The performers will characterize each song with a bit of pizazz.

“My best friend introduced me to choir and it has really brought out the musician in me,” she said.

The concert will be held at the choir’s usual venue, the Wilmont Place Baptist Church at 6440 S. Santa Fe in Oklahoma City.

The singers draw such a large audience, they overflow the Bruce Owen Theater on campus.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call Ronald Staton at his office phone number: 405-682-1611, ext. 7249, or email ronald.g.staton@occc.edu.
