OCCC’s three choirs will perform for free at 7 p.m. the evening of Tuesday, March 4.

They include 34 members of the Concert Choir, 26 Chamber Singers and 75 members of the Symphonic Community Choir.

Each choir is made up of OCCC students and community members.

The varied program will consist of standard choral a cappella repertoire, such as Clausen’s “Set Me As a Seal” and Christensen’s “Light Everlasting.”

Spiritual pieces such as “River in Judea” and “Praise His Holy Name” also will be performed as will jazz pieces including Meader’s “The Swingle Song” and “That Ever I Saw.”

Powerful choral arrangements by the conductor of the Morman Tabernacle Choir, Mack Wilberg, accompanied by two Steinway concert grand pianos, will also be in store for the audience.

Another feature of the concert will be a piano quartet composed of myself, Lisa Barsaleau, Tony Carrillo and Lori Cobart playing an arrangement of “Stars and Stripes Forever” on the Steinway grand pianos. Lisa Barsaleau and I will also play “Ode to Joy” and “Malagueña” as a duet.

In future years, many OCCC students reading this now will be performing in our beautiful, way-out-of-the-ordinary showplace, as will you and, possibly, your families.
