Oklahoma City Community College is renewing its commitment to its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.

On Sunday, June 25, OCCC will participate in the Oklahoma City Pride Parade. This marks the second year that the school will participate.

In a show of vibrant colors, OCCC students, professors and staff walked in unison with the LGBT community last summer.

“OCCC is committed to participating because we value and support our LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff,”  Director of Equal Opportunities Regina Switzer said. “We want to let prospective students and parents know that OCCC is a place where all are respected, valued, and encouraged to come and learn.  We want to demonstrate that diversity and inclusion are at the core of everything that we do at OCCC.”

Aislinn Burrows, coordinator of marketing at OCCC, agreed. The college, she said, values diversity.

“OCCC is the place it is because of the different types of people that make up our student body, faculty, and staff,” Burrows said.

Students participating in this year’s parade should come prepared by wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. OCCC t-shirts are encouraged but not required.

The Oklahoma heat can be brutal, so participants are encouraged to drink plenty of water.

Pride festivities will kick off with a free concert on Friday, June 23, and conclude with the parade at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 25.
