Time running out for President’s Leadership Class applications
The application deadline for Oklahoma City Community College’s 6th annual President’s Leadership Class is March 10.
There are incentives for taking the course if accepted: full in-state tuition and fees for up to eight credit hours (six credit hours, plus the two credit hours for PLC-2112) at OCCC for the Fall 2017 Semester, and a $500 book stipend for the Fall Semester.
These classes have existed since 2011 under OCCC’s President at the time, Paul Sechrist. In 2015, Dr. Jerry Steward became president and continued the course.
Erin Logan, co-teacher of the course and director of Student Life, encourages any “students with varying leadership experience to apply.”
The criteria for applicants includes:
- Applicants must have completed the following by May 12, 2017.
- 15 credit hours at OCCC in 1000 level courses or higher.
- Applicants must have taken English 1113 (or equivalent).
- Students must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher from the date of application through the first day of the Fall 2017 semester.
Logan said students will “gain confidence, an understanding of what it means to be a true, well-rounded leader, and how to become more active and engaged members of our community.”
Classes begin in the Fall semester of 2017 and meet Mondays from 3 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. However, it’s suggested that students be available from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Classes will occasionally meet at off-campus locations as well.
