Students invited to volunteer at Regional Food Bank
Students who are interested in volunteering can serve alongside other OCCC students at the Regional Food Bank from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31. Student Life Assistant Director Kendra Fringer said it’s a chance for students to have positive impact on the community and to learn about food needs in Oklahoma.
“It’s a great opportunity and a wonderful way to learn about the food needs that Oklahoma City and surrounding metro areas face and how so many of our community members need assistance on a daily basis,” Fringer said.
She said there are about 15 places available and students who are interested in volunteering can register online at http://www.occc.edu/studentlife/index.html by 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31.
Transportation will be provided and registered participants will meet at the Student Life Office at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. After registering, she said students need to check their email for updates on the service trip.
Fringer also said for individuals who are participating in the Civic Honors program, this trip counts towards those service hours. She said it is important to realize that there are food needs throughout the year and this is an opportunity to help meet those needs.
“It’s not just holidays that people go without food,” Fringer said.
