OCCC to host Red Dirt Theatre Company’s production of “Race”
OCCC will host the Red Dirt Theatre Company in their production of David Mamet’s “Race.” The production will be at 8 p.m. July 18 and 19 and again on July 25 and 26 in Room 1C5.
Based out of Oklahoma City, the Red Dirt Theatre Company will feature several former OCCC students in its production of “Race” as well as OCCC Theater professor Brent Noel who will star as Jack Lawson.
Noel said the play covers one of the most controversial issues in American history.
The plot, which is about a rich, white man is who is accused of raping a black woman, follows three attorneys, two of which are black.
“It’s dealing with the levels of what we are allowed to say, how we deal with race and what happens if we say something we shouldn’t,” Noel said. “It’s very funny, poignant, witty, edgy and not for the faint of heart.”
Noel said the play is intended for mature audiences. He said he hopes the issues presented will provoke discussion and debate.
“There’s a lot of racism bubbling under the surface and this just says ‘hey, you know what? Let’s get it out and talk about it.’”
Tickets for the play are $15 for general admission and $10 for students with a current OCCC ID. For more information, contact Brent Noel at 682-1611, ext. 7246, or bnoel@occc.edu.
