OCCC hosting leadership workshop
John F. Kennedy once said, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”
Students will be given the opportunity to combine leadership and learning by attending the Spring Leadership Workshop from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 on the OCCC campus.
Each of the 42 active clubs are required to send at least one member to attend, but Kendra Fringer, student life coordinator, said all club members and students are welcome to join in on the day of activities.
“We invite all of our clubs and organizations to attend, and it’s also open to any student who would like to. You don’t have to be in a club to participate. It’s open to anyone,” Fringer said.
The free workshop will focus on personal communication, for team settings, as well as personal settings, Fringer said.
“It will be here on campus and we’re going to just have some guest speakers and different individuals come and help us present on leadership topics and how we can continue to develop ourselves as individuals and then also how we can develop ourselves as team members,” she said.
For those who cannot attend the Spring Leadership Workshop, Fringer said they can attend the various Leader Series events throughout the semester. The next Leader Series is from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9 in CU1.
“They’re about an hour, an hour and a half, where we just continue on the topics. So if you’re not able to attend our one-day session, we encourage you to participate in the monthly sessions throughout the semester,” she said.
Although the topics have not been decided on for certain, Fringer said she believes they will continue talking about communications and relationship styles.
The next Leadership Workshop will be held in fall 2016.
Students can sign up for the event by contacting the Student Life office at 405-682-7523.
