Swingle Singers to take theater stage Oct. 14

The London based group, the Swingle Singers, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the Visual and Performing Arts Theater at OCCC.

The Swingle Singers is an a cappella group, meaning the singers use only their natural voices without any accompanying musical instruments.

Cultural Programs Director Lemuel Bardeguez said the Swingle Singers are outstanding.

“They are one of the original groups that do a cappella,” he said. The Swingle Singers have been around for 50 years.

Arbor Day celebration planned for April 24

OCCC will host an Arbor Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the College Union foyer, said Chris Snow, Facilities Management assistant director.

There will be several booths at the event including OCCC green tips, Tree Campus USA, Earth Day T-shirts, tree planting instructions, tree facts, free tree consultation, Hug a Tree at O-Triple-C, Carbon Footprint Commitment and bag recycling for prizes.

Former president Richard Nixon proclaimed Arbor Day as a national holiday during his presidency in 1970.

Psychology Lab to host mandala coloring contest

The OCCC Psychology Lab is slated to host a weekly mandala coloring contest beginning Thursday, March 27, according to a flier from the Psychology Lab.

Students visiting the Psychology Lab can submit a colored Mandala between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. when the lab is open.

A Mandala is a Hindu symbol “representing wholeness and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself,” according to www.themandalaproject.org.

OCCC looking for talented people

If you sing in the shower, strum air-guitar or dance like no one is watching, OCCC’s Got Talent is looking for you.

The Future Alumni Network, also known as the FAN Club, is sponsoring a talent contest on May 7 in the Bruce Owen Theater.

“OCCC’s Got Talent is a spring fundraiser [for the OCCC Foundation Scholarship Fund] … ,” said Randy Cassimus, Alumni Relations coordinator.
