Peace, love, and travel: Destination Kuwait

I’m going to Kuwait!

Most of you are probably wondering why I put an exclamation point on the end of that and yes, it is because I am so beyond excited.

Long story short — my parents and sister teach at a bilingual school in Kuwait City. I haven’t seen them since December. My parents are the best in the world and bought me a round-trip ticket for my birthday to finally see where they live.

I will be leaving May 12 and returning June 2. So, it’ll be just under three weeks. They have been making all these plans so I can get everything in that is humanly possible while I am there.

I know I will obviously be going into their school to see it, meet their students, administration, etc.

I get to see camels! The first and only time I rode one was in Karachi, Pakistan, when I was maybe 5 and I kicked, screamed and cried the entire time. I really want to change that image I have in my head to a more adult, happy experience.

I am going scuba diving!!! One of my parents’ friends is a certified instructor. She has her own boat, equipment, the whole shebang. I haven’t been scuba diving since August of 2008. PUMPED!

I really don’t know what else they have planned but I know it will be a trip of a lifetime and I never mind getting another stamp in my passport.

Jeremy Cloud, our editor, has asked if I would be interested in being the Kuwaiti corresponder while on my trip. HECK YES!

I will be blogging. I hope to be informative, yet funny. Y’all might have to help me out on what you want to know about and I will be happy to gather as much information as possible.

I will also be writing a story or two, I believe.

My dream job is to work for the National Geographic one day, travel the world and write. After taking Professor Clay Randolph’s Feature Writing class, it has inspired me to write a feature over this trip.

I’ll be gathering sources, every last detail, and writing all summer to send what I hope to be a wonderful feature in Nat Geo.

Maybe I’ll convince News Writing Professor Sue Hinton to let me put it in the paper for the first issue of the fall semester.

So, guys, keep posted. I’ll try my best to make everything interesting and fun and let you all know what’s happenin’ in Kuwait!

My sister always ends her blogs with, “Peace, Love, and (insert the main topic of her current blog).” I’ll try to come up with something clever like that, but for now…

Peace, Love, and TRAVEL!
