The comedy “Scapino!” will be performed on campus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23 through 26, in the Bruce Owen Theater.

“Scapino!” was written originally by French playwright Moliere and later adapted by Jim Dale and Frank Dunlop. This classic Italian comedy takes place in Naples, Italy.

The play is about two young men, who are left by their fathers in the care of two not-so-attentive servants.

Both young men fall in love with young women who are totally incompatible with their fathers’ plans for arranged marriages.

When the fathers return, all hopes, eyes, and flying household objects are directed toward Scapino, the master of trickery and cunning.

For the sake of his own survival, Scapino must solve the mess and put everything back to rights again. Sophomore art major Hannah Legget plays the role of Scapino.

“It’s a funny play with audience interaction,” Legget said. “You will definitely enjoy yourself. Even Ebenezer Scrooge would smile.”

Students said they enjoyed working alongside guest director Jon Haque for this production.

“He is an amazing director,” freshman theater arts major Ashley Milligan said. “He just has good instincts about everything.

“We have fun and laugh, but at the same time we get stuff done,” Milligan said.

Milligan said the twists and turns of the plot contribute to the play’s entertainment value.

“You won’t know what to expect. “It’s fast, funny, enjoyable, and unpredictable.”
