Free immunizations for children will be offered from 2 to 4 p.m. April 12 in the parking lot of OCCC’s Family and Community Education Center, located at 6500 S. Land Ave.

The Caring Van is a mobile immunization initiative funded by the Oklahoma Caring Foundation, said Child Development Center and Lab School Supervisor Lee Ann Townsend.

Townsend said the event is open to the public.

A parent or guardian must be present to complete required paperwork, and must bring a copy of their child or children’s current shot record, she said.

The Oklahoma Caring Foundation is a non-profit organization administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma.

According to the Oklahoma City-County Health Department website at www.cchdoc.com, the program is designed to serve “those who do not routinely access traditional health care systems.”

The program’s goal is to eliminate barriers that prevent children from receiving proper immunization, the website said.

The Oklahoma Immunization fact sheet lists 11 serious diseases that can be prevented through immunization, including diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, measles, meningitis, mumps, whooping cough, polio, rubella, tetanus, and chicken pox.
