Wearing masks more fun next week in Student Life contest
If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate Halloween, OCCC Student Life has an opportunity to let out your wild side.
Students are encouraged to pick up a free, reusable white cotton mask from the Office of Student Life Oct. 26-29, decorate it as creatively as they wish, and then send an image of it to studentlife@occc.edu by noon Oct. 30 as part of a Halloween mask decorating contest.
The Student Life office, located on the second floor of the Main Building, is open 8 a.m. – 6 p.m Monday through Thursday,
Students are highly encouraged to show their faces covered with the decorated masks.
Aside from obscenity and offensive artistry, students can let their imaginations run wild when decorating their masks.
“We are really leaving it up for interpretation! We would love to see how creative our students can be,” Director of Student Life Cody Garrison said.
“We would love to see masks that scream Halloween, showcase students’ passions or hobbies, pop culture, or landscapes. It’s a blank canvas; let the creativeness flow!”
The contest entries will be judged by Student Life staff or faculty members who will sort through the images and declare a winner.
The winner will receive what’s being called a “terror-ific Halloween gift package.”
Students are asked to also post to Student Life’s social media pages @occcstudentlife and tag #OTripleEvents #MaskCompetition.
“We wanted to provide an opportunity for students to be creative, and we wanted to do something different than a costume contest. Since we are providing the masks, we hope more students will be able to participate,” Garrison said.
“Masks have become a part of our lives, a part of fashion, so let’s make some awesome designs to share with the world.”
