Student Orientation informative for students

Helpful information and campus tours are just a couple of things that will take place during Student Orientation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, Wednesday, July 23 in CU3, said Kendra Fringer, Student Life Coordinator.

Fringer said the orientation about the campus resources will be informative to new students as well as returning students.

“We highly suggest that students attend orientation,” she said. “It’s not just for new students; it’s really geared toward being familiar with the college and the resources that can help you here.

“We have different offices that [attend the orientation] and different [areas] that bring resources, so it’s really helpful for anyone and really great for new students.”

Fringer said the tour will go through the Main Building.

“We show them where a few of the labs are located and then we take them through as many of the different wings as possible,” she said.

Fringer said it’s important for students to be aware of the resources OCCC offers such as the different offices and professionals on campus who can provide them with support and resources.

She said those who miss this orientation can still attend a later one.

“We have a few orientations left. They can stop by our office to sign up … .”

Those take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 29, in CU3, and from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at CU3, according to an email via Student Life, Fringer said.

“Everyone is welcome,” she said. “We’re more than happy to make sure that they get the resources they need. If we don’t know the answers, we’re more than happy to find somebody who does know the answers for them.”

Fringer said students also are encouraged to attend Opening Day on Monday, Aug. 18, for a more detailed tour of the campus.
