Roughly 700 OCCC students face disabilities

Student Support Services student disability services hosted a table on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the Main Building, as part of Diversity Week.

Disability Support Specialist Todd Rudat spoke with students about the various disabilities that roughly 700 OCCC students face.

“Diabetes, seizures, traumatic head injuries, and autism spectrum disorders,” Rudat said.

Not all disabilities that students face are physical. 48 percent of the 700 students have learning disabilities such as dyslexia and dyscalculia, he said.

Rudat said the goal of Student Disability Services is to provide reasonable accommodations for disabled students.
