The Oklahoma City Public Schools 8th Grade Career was held on Nov. 4 at Oklahoma City Community College with more than 20 businesses and institutions from different industries participating.

The annual event has been hosted by the Oklahoma City Public School since 2014.

This year marked the seventh time the event has been held.

The Career Expo aims to help 8th graders prepare for their career paths at a young age. The students were able to explore various types of professions and interact with representatives from different industries and areas.

“The purpose of the event is to expose 8th-grade OKCPS students to career options. The goal is to have students learn about careers at an early age,” said Michael Hoggatt, director of recruitment and admissions.

Each organization presented its expertise with different products and also provided advising services to the students to help them decide the right educational goals.

“The event also allows the students to see a college campus and see what programs OCCC has to offer,” Hoggatt added.

With all divisions from OCCC participating, the 8th graders could explore various types of degrees and programs that the school has to offer and ask for any advice from the faculties and staff to get ready for a career path or to start an education at OCCC.
