Crescendo: good food, live entertainment, local art

Crescendo BannerThe best restaurants in town will provide food, local artists will display their art and the OKC Philharmonic Orchestra will set the mood for Crescendo, an event to benefit Arts Festival Oklahoma. This all happens Sunday, Sept. 6, in the Visual and Performing Arts Sarkeys Foundation Atrium, said Alumni Relations Director Randy Cassimus.

Cassimus said the evening is a great way to enjoy the arts while supporting a great cause.

“It’s a fun event and it’s a great way for people who support the arts to come have some fun, enjoy some great food and drink, enjoy some great entertainment and have their ticket price go to support Arts Festival Oklahoma,” he said.

Live entertainment will include Latin pop band Tequila Azul as well as local musician Andrew May who performed at the 2015 OCCC’s Got Talent, Cassimus said.

The Philharmonic Orchestra will perform outside at 8:30 p.m. Crescendo guests can take advantage of their reserved seating outside — which is included with the ticket — or they can stay inside the atrium and watch on a television monitor as the concert is simulcast there, Cassimus said.

Deep Fork Grill, Sweet Prairie Home-Signature Fudge, Stuffed Olive Cafe and Cocina de Mino will provide food, he said. Each caterer and restaurant will serve from their own table within the atrium.

Cassimus said visual arts also will be a part of the evening, with art from local artists on display and for sale in the VPAC gallery. He said OCCC’s mission includes making arts accessible to everyone.

“Getting into the arts festival is free, and it’s been a mission of the college and the college’s cultural programs office to be able to bring art to the community or be able to expose them to it in a variety,” he said. “OCCC has been great about supporting the arts and has brought the arts — for free — to the community.”

The OCCC Foundation will host Crescendo from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center Sarkeys Foundation Atrium.

Tickets are $50 in advance and will be $60 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at www.occc.edu/crescendo or by calling the OCCC Foundation at 405-682-7591.
