College to honor outstanding students in May 7 celebration

OCCC Students who have shone in comparison with their peers will be honored for their achievements next month. 

The 2021 Student Awards Ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. May 7,  in the Visual Performing Arts Center at Oklahoma City Community College.

The awards are for outstanding students in their academic divisions; for community service, such as membership in a student organization, serving as a peer mentor or writing for the Pioneer; Community and Workforce Development, and participation the Honors Program

This is an in-person event, though it is not open to the public. 

Only the 84 students who are receiving awards will be allowed to enter. 

While no other guests are permitted to physically attend the event, there will be a live stream available for anyone who is interested in showing support and helping celebrate students in their achievements.

All attending the on-campus event will have their temperatures checked upon arrival, and masks will be required for entrance. 

Designated seating to keep everyone socially distanced and separated safely is being arranged. 

The college will also be taking award recipients’ photos against a backdrop off stage for students so they can take their masks off while distanced from everyone else safely.

“Despite the challenges, Student Life is thrilled and honored to recognize students who, in the midst of uncertainty and change, were able to persevere and achieve academic success,” Director of Student Life Cody Garrison said.

“We want to congratulate all of our students for rising above, for showing grit, and for making an impact on our community. This has certainly been an unprecedented year.”
