Psych club has fun with ink blots

The Psychology Club hosted a Make Your Own Ink Blot event in room 1H2 on Thursday, April 14. The event was hosted in order to obtain the design for the club’s new t-shirts.

Club Sponsor and Social Science Division Assistant Laurie Thornton showed the students how to make inkblots, used in a Rorschach inkblot test.

Students were given a choice of three paint colors, and was instructed to drip or smear paint on a piece of paper, and then folding it in any way they wanted.

Learn eco-friendly tips at fair

Since Earth Day coincides with Student Life’s Green Week celebration, OCCC’s Green Task Force will host an information fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 19 in the General Dining Area, said Marcy Roll, Student Life assistant and sponsor of Earth Day.

Roll said the Green Task Force is a group of students, staff and faculty members that are dedicated to creating and promoting awareness and moving toward an environmentally responsible campus.

“The Information Fair is a chance for students and student organizations to display what they are doing to make their lives and the campus more environmentally friendly,” Roll said.

Online courses on the plate for this week’s Brown Bag

Student Life will host a Brown Bag luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in CU1 said Service Learning and Student Life Programs Coordinator Jill Lindblad.

“They will be talking about the differences between online and in-class learning as well as the requirements, especially at OCCC,” Lindblad said.

“They will discuss what students need to consider when taking online classes, because some students learn better in person, while others learn better online.”

Forum to bring students together

The second Multicultural Student Business Forum will again bring together students from OCCC and Ulyanovsk State University in Russia.

A video conference between the two is planned for 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the Business Lab, room 2R0 in the Main Building.

“We communicate via Skype,” said Germain Pichop, Multicultural Student Business Club faculty adviser.

Annual bake sale, cook-off a success

The Faculty Association Scholarship Committee hosted OCCC’s annual Make It, Bake It sale and chili cook-off Tuesday April 5. The faculty had a wide variety of goods for sale to raise funds for student scholarships.

Several tables were loaded with baked goods from the faculty. Other tables had hand-made goods such as sock animals, crocheted scarves, blankets and painted items.

The chili cook-off was extremely popular and brought a lot of attention.

Loans, debt to be covered in Money Matters luncheon

Student Life is hosting a Money Matters luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, April 4, in CU1 in the College Union.

Outreach Coordinator Liz Brandon will speak about loan repayment.

“They will be talking about how students that have student loans, credit debt or general debt should pay of the debts and to not default,” said Service Learning and Student Life Programs Coordinator Jill Lindblad.

Student rewarded with laptop

The Enrollment and Student Services office, along with Student Life, recently presented Diana Rivera with a new Dell laptop computer.

Rivera’s name was drawn from about 50 names of students, all of whom completed 12 hours of service learning during the fall semester.

Rivera, allied health major, is part of the OKC-Go program at OCCC.

OKC-Go provides tuition waivers to Oklahoma City Public School students who are interested in attending OCCC after they graduate high school.

Transferring basics on the menu for today’s Brown Bag

Student Life is hosting a Brown Bag luncheon on the basics of transferring from noon to 1 p.m. March 30 in CU1.

Academic Advser Melissa Aguigui will cover all the basics someone might want to know about transferring to a four-year university.

“They will be covering course equivalencies, timelines, application requirements, and the basics,” said First Year and Student Life programs Coordinator Katie Treadwell.
