Men’s basketball league competitive

The most serious basketball on campus could be the Thursday night men’s league from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the OCCC gym.

Six teams fight for bragging rights at the end of the season which lasts eight weeks in the spring. The league is open to anyone.

This semester’s league play ends May 12. The tournament ends May 19.

Lauren Kollmorgen, Wellness Center attendant, said the members of the league are fierce competitors when it comes to the game of basketball.

Laser tag tourney draws nine teams

On a rainy afternoon in the OCCC gym on April 27, Laser Tag stormed onto the scene in full force.

Mobile Laser Forces sponsored the event, and provided the weapons and obstacle course.

“This is the first time that OCCC (has had) Laser Tag as an Intramural sport and I’m really excited with the turnout,” said Eric Watson, Recreation and Sports specialist.

Enroll for youth summer camps

OCCC is taking admissions on Monday, April 25, for Summer Youth Sports Camp and Recreational Camp for kids.

And, all those enrolling between April 25 and May 6 will receive a 10 percent discount, said Jenny Kellbach recreation and fitness secretary.

OCCC is working in conjunction with the Community Outreach College for Kids program, she said. Most of the camps last one week and cost $39.

Lifeguard training course offered

The OCCC Aquatic Center will host an American Red Cross lifeguard training class almost every week through mid-June.

The next class runs April 7 through 16 on Thursdays and Fridays from 6 to 9:30 p.m., including two consecutive Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This course will certify people to be lifeguards at city pools in Oklahoma and most other states, said Aquatics Center secretary Jenny Kellbach.

OCCC students cheer on Thunder

Student Life recently made it possible for OCCC students to attend the March 2 Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game for $5.

Several students took advantage of the affordable price and watched the OKC Thunder play against the Indiana Pacers.

Sean Tolbert said he was just walking across campus when he happened to pass a sign that read, “OKC Thunder basketball game tickets for $5.”
