Intramural basketball wrapped up its season with a championship tournament in the OCCC gym April 1.

The tournament opened play with four teams vying for the title in a three game, single-elimination bracket.

Heavy favorite Team Wet held the overall number one seed, finishing the regular season undefeated.

The OCCC Aquatic Center will host an American Red Cross lifeguard training class almost every week through mid-June.

The next class runs April 7 through 16 on Thursdays and Fridays from 6 to 9:30 p.m., including two consecutive Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This course will certify people to be lifeguards at city pools in Oklahoma and most other states, said Aquatics Center secretary Jenny Kellbach.

Chris Knight knows he has lived more than his fair share of lifetimes in just 35 years.

He recently reflected on his accomplishments over a couple of beers on a warm Friday afternoon at a southside restaurant in Oklahoma City.

Student Life recently made it possible for OCCC students to attend the March 2 Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game for $5.

Several students took advantage of the affordable price and watched the OKC Thunder play against the Indiana Pacers.

Sean Tolbert said he was just walking across campus when he happened to pass a sign that read, “OKC Thunder basketball game tickets for $5.”

San Diego State University Women’s Swim and Dive team won their first Mountain West Championship ever in school history at OCCC during the last weekend in February.

The University of Nevada-Las Vegas Men’s Swim and Dive team won their seventh in a row Mountain West Conference Championship.

The OCCC Aquatic Center hosted more than 635 high school swimmers for the OSSAA 5A and 6A State Swimming Championships Feb. 19.

The state championship meet was for all state qualifiers who had outstanding performances throughout the season.

Students can work out for free in the college Wellness Center, said Charlie Tarver, sports and recreation assistant.

The Wellness Center is located on the southwest side of the Main Building.

Tarver said students can use the basketball and volleyball courts in the gym just by checking in at the desk first.

The hours for the weight room and basketball courts are Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, said Eric Watson recreation and sports specialist.

It is not too late to sign up for intramural basketball at OCCC, said Eric Watson, OCCC sports specialist.

Watson said his focus right now is to get the college’s basketball program up and running.

Many factors have led to the delay of the intramural basketball league, he said.

OCCC will host the Mountain West Conference swimming Championships Feb. 23 through Feb. 27 in the OCCC Aquatic Center.

James Hensley, Aquatic Specialist, said OCCC has hosted the Mountain West Conference since 2000.

Hensley said Mountain West Conference officials chose OCCC to host the event because it is a neutral site and is centrally located.

An exciting new chapter for Intramural Sports is about to come of age at OCCC.

“We are going to introduce a new intramural registration site, which is more of a membership management site,” said Eric Watson, recreation and fitness specialist.

The new website is called Imleagues and is everything wrapped up in one.

It has game schedules and team information — basically all the descriptions and announcements involved with intramural sports, Watson said.

He said he believes the site will make intramural sports more efficient.
